Kapa Haka is a cultural performing art which enables our students to express themselves; it gives them the opportunity to experience success, gain confidence through performance, to show pride and to thrive as leaders and role models.
Our students value Kapa Haka, Māori Performing Arts! At Te Mata School we have three Kapa Haka groups; one group in our Junior School, one in the Middle School and another in the Senior School. Students are supported by teachers and leaders from across the school. Our Senior School is also led by our amazing Kapa Haka tutors Chantze Rohe and Te Ara Ripeka Rangihuna. The Junior School Kapa Haka captivated the school when they performed earlier this term, their Waiata, poi and haka were super cute and powerful! At the same performance the Middle's pronunciation, pitch and clarity was precise - their performance of Hareruia (Hallelujah) left chills on the arms of those who listened. They also demonstrated that our current Year 4 students are going to be fantastic role models in our Senior School Kapa Haka next year. Throughout all of our Senior School Kapa Haka efforts they have demonstrated mana and presence - they are there to lead and to make us proud, which they do.
'Kapa' means group, and 'Haka' to perform. Kapa Haka involves an emotional and powerful combination of waiata, haka and mōteatea. All three of our Kapa Haka are actively involved in our school:
