The Education Review Office (ERO) is a government organisation that partners with schools across New Zealand to evaluate and strengthen the quality of education. Their role is to ensure that schools are delivering the very best outcomes for all learners and implementing key initiatives effectivily.
Rather than conducting one-off reviews, ERO now works alongside schools over time—building an ongoing partnership focused on continuous improvement and long-term learner success with numerous visits. They get to know each school in more depth and understand the bigger picture of a school.

The Process in more depth - ERO and Te Mata School.
Over the last three years, we have had the ERO team visit Te Mata School on multiple occasions. Throughout this time, they have thoroughly reviewed our school planning, policies, systems, and most importantly—our teaching and learning programmes. They spent time observing learning in action, meeting with our board, staff, children and families, and getting to know our school deeply.
We’re very proud to share that ERO has now released their official report for Te Mata School. In addition, they provided our leadership team with detailed feedback that goes beyond the formal report format. This feedback has been incredibly affirming, and we are excited to share it with you. It confirms what we already believe to be true—that Te Mata is an extraordinary place for learning, connection and growth.
We can be incredibly proud of the high-quality teaching and learning that takes place every day at our school. Our children experience a wide range of rich learning opportunities, as well as targeted support and meaningful extension across the curriculum. This ensures that every learner is challenged, celebrated and cared for.
