Here at Te Mata School, we strive to give every child as many opportunities as possible to find their passion or to try something new. We are lucky enough to offer a range of musical instruments and tuition for our Year 5 and 6 students, including violin, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet, percussion, saxophone, keyboard, guitar, and vocal tuition.
If you would like your child to learn an instrument in 2025, please read the below information carefully.
Registering your child for a musical instrument is easy. Trained tutors deliver lessons during school hours either onsite at Te Mata School or next door at Havelock North Intermediate, depending on the instrument. Children take part in lessons within a small group environment where they can learn together and encourage one another.
Tuition fees will still be $400.00 in 2025. These must be paid in full by the end of February and commit your child to a whole year of 32 lessons, as our school signs a yearly contract with each tutor based on the number of students enrolled for the year.
**There may also be additional costs, such as music books, clear files, and hireage of instruments, that are over and above the tuition fee.
Children who learn Cello, Violin, Trumpet, Clarinet, and Saxophone or have Vocal Tuition will have their lessons at Havelock North Intermediate and pay them directly once invoiced.
Flute lessons are outside school hours and run through the Hawke’s Bay Orchestral Society. They will invoice you directly.
Te Mata School will invoice your child's KINDO account directly for the keyboard, guitar, and drums.
Please only pay money once invoiced.
Instruments:
Instruments may be available for hire through Havelock North Intermediate (for the lessons held there), depending on numbers.
Pupils wishing to learn keyboard and guitar need to have their own instruments at home. They are not available for hire.
Drum students need a practice pad and drumsticks. You must purchase these yourself before lessons start.
Children need to have a clear file to keep their music sheets in and bring them to lessons each week.
Lessons:
All instruction occurs in group sessions of 2 - 4 students before, after, or during school times.
Students are expected to attend every lesson on time with their instruments and music. The child is responsible for demonstrating our school values, practising consistently, as this is essential to success, and seeing their commitment through to the end of the year.
Important:
I encourage you to take the time to read the link on instruments available and research further by exploring the possibilities with each instrument so that you and your child can make an informed decision about which may best suit them and their personalities.
Taking the time now to find the ‘right fit’ may save money and angst later on.
Please also discuss with your child the commitment involved in learning an instrument before registering.
No refund is made on tuition fees if your child withdraws from lessons during the year.
Please note: Online registrations close on Tuesday 17th December 2024.
Late registrations will not be accepted after this date.
